If you have an office job, there are days you have likely stood up for lunch feeling stiff and a little lethargic. And then there’s going home. You stand up and you momentarily struggle to walk because you’re so uncomfortable.
If you can relate to this, you’re probably feeling the side of effects of having a desk job. Or any sedentary job, really.
Staying in one place for 7 to 10 hours a day isn’t healthy. But it becomes worse when you don’t have proper posture. Part of the problem is that many of us don’t even realize we have bad posture.
And by the time we do realise, it’s because we have a sore neck or back, have headaches and feel tired when all we have been doing, physically, is staying in one place.
What bad posture is doing to you?
Bad posture has been linked to, among other things:
- Exacerbating the effects of depression
- Lower productivity and fatigue
- Triggering heart attacks
- Increased back pain
- Worsen visual acuity when using a computer
By correcting your posture, you can become healthier, happier and more productive. And not just at work. With correct posture you’ll find you have more energy, are happier, sleep better and are able to do more.
My Posture Reflex is passionate about helping you achieve better posture to improve your day-to-day living.
How you can improve your posture?
When it comes to improving your posture, there are two things you can do. The first is to be conscious of your posture when you’re at work.
What you need to do is bring your head to a neutral position and push your chin forward. Then straighten your spine and lift yourself by the base of the skull, that is imaging someone is doing this to you. After this you need to pull your shoulder blades together and down.
By consciously doing this at work, you can help to improve your posture.
The second thing you can do is purchase an adjustable posture corrector. This product comes in a variety of options depending on your needs. An advantage of the adjustable posture corrector is it fits comfortably beneath a coat or blazer.
